Finally, I get to tell you all about an amazing community event we were so lucky to be a part of, Sugar Rush!
A group of amazing women came together to help raise money for our local schools, Deans Mill and Mystic Middle. When Mary Kelly from the band Sugar stepped up, the event started to take on a new life. The Velvet Mill in Stonington Borough was the perfect venue for this shindig. The event was to be for families. So many fundraisers we do are to raise money for kids and they aren’t invited to participate. Crazy, right? So, with kids in mind and a band called Sugar, what better name than Sugar Rush. A candy and carnival themed event all ages could enjoy. Complete with an amazing candy bar that was too good to be true…giant pixie sticks and candy buttons (a total throwback) included. Raffles that were making the kids crazy! An American Girl Doll, a surfboard, kayak, IPad, Nike gift card, legos, a colorful bike, jewelry and so much more.
The kids danced all night and at one point were invited on stage to dance. There was a huge variety of food, arts and crafts and face painting and oh, did I mention cotton candy and popcorn?
It wouldn’t have been possible without the help from so many sponsors, family and business. Way to many to name. Local restaurants donated food to sell, businesses donated their services and items to raffle and families donated time, money and lots of love♥ It was truly a community night.
For those of you worried about the amount of sugar consumed that night (and you should be), no worries. The team thought of everything. Each guest was sent home with a complimentary toothbrush and toothpaste…they are moms after all.
A special thanks to Emily Kuhn and Karen O’Keefe, both PTO Presidents, for tirelessly giving their time and support to the students in Stonington. Thank You!!!!
